My name is Warren Thurston; I am a sixty-one year old author and book reviewer. Melbourne Australia is my hometown where I live with my wife, two daughters, two cats and a dog. A government employee for thirty-five years I look forward to retirement so I can devote more time to my writing.
The idea for this site took hold of me at the beginning of 2006. I was getting tired of continual rejections from the established publishing houses in Australia. So I decided to branch out and try writing in some genres I had not tackled before, and send the results overseas.
I was fortunate to have JD Drama Publish my manuscript for a school duet (15 minute play) "Books" in October 2006. In November 2006 Alien Skin published my flash story "Creatures". Getting published in alien territory for me, gave my confidence a boost. I knew I could write entertaining stories, if I did not listen to my inhibitions.
So do not be afraid to explore the unknown you never know it just could be the niche you are seeking.
For several years I have reviewed books in all genres and you can see examples of them by going to "Book Reviews".
Reading is a good stimulant for the imagination if the writing is lively and interactive.
Another good way to get your creative juices flowing is to take a daily walk. I walk 10 kilometres everyday of the week, rain, hail or shine when I get home from work. Some of my best writing ideas come to me whilst walking.
So if you whose wish is to become an author, your best work is not always done in front of the computer. You need to get out of the house and exercise, but do not forget to take a small notebook with you. Moments of inspiration can strike without warning; always be prepared.
